God is our provider. He truly, truly is. I am blown away by something that just happened. Like literally jaw dropping shocked and in awe of our God.
The Lord called us to do this back in May. It sounded crazy at first, but as we spoke it out loud and shared with others… it went from “Yes… this is possible” to “Yes… this is happening!” Every step along the way has been ordered. Believe me… if you know us personally… the word “ordered” only applies to the happenings inside my hubby’s office. Most of the time we are running here and there and everywhere, flying by the seat of our pants. Thank the Lord for His abundant mercy! He has shown us every step of the way, even if sometimes we don’t see the step until the last minute when we’re already stepping out! Everything has been happening at such great speed and with such divine styling, that I suppose I SHOULDN’T be shocked!
Today… our first door closed on this. And we rejoiced. It wasn’t one we expected to have close on us, and it was just further confirmation that this is what we should be doing. Our landlords called and said that due to taxes, we either have to buy the house before October 31 or they have to move back in on the 31st. Had the Lord not called us to do this… we would have been SCRAMBLING like mad trying to store our stuff, pare down, find a place to live, etc. etc. in about 45 days. The provision involved here is staggering. We’ve been prepping for months for this journey, paring down and reducing… planning… SO thankful that our God looked out for us!!!by Theflyingks
Last night I watched an episode of Sister Wives online. YES it is a guilty pleasure. I don’t know, I suppose it is a glimpse into FLDS that makes me curious. Aside from the fact of the polygamy it’s a really wholesome show. Don’t judge.
Anyway, one of the things that stood out was this “Family Purpose” that one of the wives put forth for the family. I had to google, because although I think this “sister” is creative… she’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Therefore, I figured she must have “Google Gleaned”(tm) I am trademarking this term as I just came up with it while typing this and thought it clever) this idea. Yes. Yes, she did. You can find the full like here.
Basically the article asks you to sit down with your family and finish sentences like:
1. What are a few strengths of each member of our family?
2. Collectively, we are at our best when we are…
3. Collectively, we are at our worst when we are…
4. If we had a completely free day together as a family, how would we spend it?
5. What are practical ways we can serve each other?
6. What are practical ways we can serve others outside our family?
7. Name three things you think you could do better as a family.
8. What would people say today about our family as a whole?
9. What would we like people to say about our family as a whole in 30 years?
10. If our home could be filled with one emotion, what would it be?
11. Name three adjectives we would like people to use to describe our home environment.
12. If we could name one principle from which we want our family to operate, what would it be?
I am going to have my family do this Sunday evening and make our mission statement for the website AND frame it for our wall in the RV. This is the reason we have our philosophy of education, to remember our mission and purpose. Also, this is a really good bonding experience for our family.by Theflyingks
Purging. Cleansing. Disposing. Clarifying.
Matthew 6:19-21 says it best, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Last weekend, we got rid of bags and bags of clothing and bedding. Today, I will be posting some things on craigslist and ebay. I’m also going through my kitchen cabinets to weed down to a manageable amount of kitchen items. I will be putting SOME things in storage, but for the most part – it is time for the great downsize of 2013.
As I’ve been releasing things, it gets easier and easier. I don’t know if it comes from growing up in poverty or what… but releasing “things” hasn’t been exactly a cake walk. My girls have no such attachment, for which I am SUPER thankful! In fact, I had to go through Sydney’s trash bag when we moved here to pull out hard cover historical novels and other items that weren’t trash. The process is cleansing, and I am thankful that so far we’ve been doing well in paring down. I cannot, however, go through all the stuff in the garage… that is a blue ticket item (one for the man). The man in question has no time for this process, so I may have to roll up my sleeves and go through it myself. I’m not sure that would be a good thing for our marriage!
Luke 12:15 says, “And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”” So, though giving up my car in September is going to be difficult (45 miles to the gallon?!)… I know that my life doesn’t revolve around it! All these “things” I’ve been collecting through the years don’t matter at all in the scheme of things. The things that matter can’t be sold or put on craigslist or into storage. The things that matter won’t be destroyed by moths, rust, or thieves. My treasures will be with me.
The blue truck SOLD today! YAY! What a praise! Karl flies out 4am-ish to go get our NEW truck.
It is the king ranch edition – 2008 with navigation and a dvd player for the kids. It is built to haul, with built in drawers and cut bed for turning radius. It is also a dually so it can handle our beast of a home. Karl is staying with my mom’s cousin in Austin while there… super happy about that! We’re very excited!
